Inside Cisteller Winery

In January, we had the privilege of visiting Cisteller, a truly special winery tucked into the hills of Subirats, Alt Penedès—just 40 minutes outside Barcelona. 🌿🍇 Run by Jessica and Sergi, a powerhouse husband-and-wife duo who first met as lab partners at UC Davis, their journey is as inspiring as the wines they create.

After working harvests across the globe—from Burgundy to New Zealand—they returned to Sergi’s family estate in 2019 to build something uniquely their own.

The name “Cisteller” means basket weaver in Catalan—a nod to Sergi’s great-grandfather, who once wove harvest baskets in the 1920s. The family estate, Finca El Sot, has passed through generations, evolving from a small cava operation into what is now one of the most exciting new voices in Penedès winemaking. Their striking labels, inspired by traditional painted mercantile signs, pay tribute to this legacy while also signaling something fresh, bold, and modern.

We walked the vineyards, explored the cellar, and tasted through their elegant, expressive, and quietly radical wines—including their newest sparkling, now proudly part of the exclusive Corpinnat group. 😍 Through it all, we got to understand what makes their wines so uniquely gastronomic, delicious, and one of a kind—the kind of bottles that spark conversation at the table and linger long after the last sip. Jess and Sergi's energy is infectious, and their approach is equal parts thoughtful, precise, and grounded in real care.

Spot something new in the photos? 👀 Let’s just say there are exciting things in the works—and we can’t wait to share more soon.
