Wines worth a try: “Dominio de Casalta” by Pepe Rodriguez de Vera

Meet Pepe
Pepe Rodríguez de Vera is considered one of the most dynamic and forward-thinking winemakers of modern Spain. Coming from a family with six generations of viticultural history, his connection to wine began in the vineyards long before he formally entered the industry.
What started as a personal passion eventually developed into a serious pursuit of excellence, leading him to obtain the prestigious WSET Level 4 Diploma, one of the highest academic qualifications in wine, and to become a candidate for the Master of Wine program, a distinction pursued by only a small group of wine professionals worldwide.
" Pepe is often described as a “collector of great vineyards.”

Across Spain he has dedicated himself to discovering and reviving exceptional sites, often working with old vines and indigenous grape varieties that were in danger of being forgotten. His projects focus on expressing the authenticity of each vineyard, with careful farming and minimal intervention in the cellar to preserve the natural character of the grapes.
Dominio de Casalta
At the core of his work is Dominio de Casalta, the estate that marked the beginning of his winemaking journey. Located in Almansa in Castilla-La Mancha, the vineyards sit at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level, where warm days and cool nights help maintain freshness and balance in the fruit.
Many of the vines are over 50 years old and grow in limestone and clay soils, conditions that contribute depth, structure, and complexity to the wines.
